Vladimir Giurescu was a powerful vampire. He was brought back to life by the goddess Hecate in the middle ages. He worked with and was ultimately betrayed by the Nazis during World War II. After the nazi's killed him, he was restored to life and finally defeated by Hellboy in the 1990's.

BiographyEdit

Life, Death & RebirthEdit

In 1492 Giurescu's father bought the dried out body of Hecate from some Greek fishermen. He restored the goddess to life and built her a temple.^[1]

When Vladimir was a child he fell into a frozen river. Hours passed before the body was recovered. Vladimir's father begged Hecate to restore him to life. He sacrificed all the dogs and all the servant's. After three days Hecate restored Vladimir to life,^[2] by giving him a piece of herself.^[3]

Gaining a ReputationEdit

Much of Giurescu's life is unknown. What follows are the few details that are established;

Napoleonic WarsEdit

Giurescu served as an officer during the Napoleonic Wars.

1806 - Giurescu commanded Prussian troops
1809 - Giurescu served with the Austrians
1811 - Giurescu posed for a portrait before the Battle of Redinha
1812 - Giurescu led Cossacks in Russia
1814 - Giurescu was in Paris when Napoleon Abdicated
1815 - Giurescu was with Blucher at Waterloo^[4]

Confronted by Sir Edward GreyEdit

1882, Aug 8 - Sir Edward Grey writes to Queen Victoria that the Nobleman Giurescu is in fact supernatural, and wants to take over England
1882, Aug 19 - Giurescu flees England, and Grey refers to him as a vampire^[5]

World War IIEdit

In 1944 Heinrich Himmler proposed project "Vampire Sturm." A delegation led by Ilsa Haupstein was sent to Castle Giurescu to recruit him. At some point Giurescu and Ilsa Haupstein became lovers. On December 3rd, Giurescu met with Hitler at Wewelsburg. The next day Hitler ordered Giurescu and his six wives arrested. On the 16th Giurescu and his wives arrived in Dachau and were killed. According to former guards all seven were impaled, decapitated and burned, however they were not entirely correct.^[6]

Somehow Hans Ubler , a German Nightclub owner, was able to smuggle Giurescu's body out of Germany when he fled in early 1945. Ubler ended up in New York all the while keeping the body.^[7]

Wake the DevilEdit

Giurescu's body was taken from Ubler's wax museum in Soho, New York by Ilsa Haupstein. Ilsa took the body back to Castle Giurescu and had it prepared to be revived by the full moon.^[8]

Hellboy finds Giurescu's father and he explains Giurescu's origin. After listening Hellboy asks where Giurescu is now. His father refuses to give up his location and Hellboy kills the ghoul trying to find out.^[9]

Hellboy finds Giurescu's body just in time to witness his revival. The pair fight, and Giurescu flees wounded. He calls to Hecate to revive him one last time so that he may have revenge. Meanwhile Hellboy rigged the castle to explode, hoping this would destroy Giurescu.^[10]

The Castle explodes burning Hellboy. Three local men dig him up and tie him to a post at the crossroads for Giurescu.^[11] Giurescu, now fully restored, rides up to Hellboy seeking revenge. Hellboy manages to hit him with the post he is tied to and Giurescu explodes into bone. Giurescu sacrificed himself to allow Hecate to be reborn.^[12] Hecate took back the part of herself that kept him alive so that she could enter into a new body prepared by Grigori Rasputin.^[13]

Darkness CallsEdit

At some point Giurescu's remains were taken to a crypt near Lucca, Italy.^[14] There Igor Bromhead learned from him that Hecate now bears the heart of Giurescu's one time lover, Ilsa Haupstein. Bromhead summons Hecate, and using the secret name Ilsa Haupstein binds her there.^[15] Bromhead removed Haupstein's body from the Iron Maiden. He bricked them up together within in the crypt, Giurescu's skeletal arms embracing his lover.^[16]

PowersEdit

If Giurescu dies or is wounded, his body can be laid out in a special room and the light of the full moon will revive him.^[17]

Giurescu can transform into a large dark eagle.^[18]
