Elizabeth Sherman and Roger travel to Colorado to look into a ghost train with connections to Lobster Johnson.

Publication HistoryEdit

Following Hollow Earth it was unclear what direction the B.P.R.D. comics would take. Four one-shot stories were published every other month from May to November 2003; The Soul of Venice, Dark Waters, Night Train and There's Something Under My Bed. At the same time during the 'off' months Dark Horse published the out of continuity anthology Hellboy: Weird Tales.

Dark Waters was published in September 2003. The story was later collected in B.P.R.D.: The Soul of Venice & Other Stories in August 2004.

SynopsisEdit

In Colorado in 1939, Lobster Johnson is chasing a Nazi saboteur on top of a moving train holding scientists end equipment for the Manhattan Project. Johnson catches up to the Nazi while the train is on a bridge, but the Nazi jumps off and Parachutes to safety. The bridge explodes, while Johnson manages to survive, the scientists and Johnson's assistant are killed.

Elizabeth Sherman and Roger are sent to Colorado to investigate the appearance of a ghost train. They set up camp at that night the ghost train arrives. The train stops and a bunch of Army man run off looking for something. The Ghosts surround a house. Liz and Roger break in to see what is going on inside. Hiding in the house they find an old man, who blew up the train back in 1939. He asks them for help, but suddenly attaches a device on Liz that makes the ghosts go after her instead. The ghosts drag Liz back to the train.

The ghost of Lobster Johnson appears and tells Roger to go after Liz. Roger boards the ghost train and destroys the device. Roger carries Liz off of the train as the ghost soldiers take the old German to his fate.
